Volunteer

Three people run this. We need more hands.

Right now our whole team is three people. Each of us is over 60 and living with a disability. Every giveaway Saturday we set out groceries for hundreds of people and help them choose, ourselves, and every week we drive the pickups and restock the boxes.

Three of thirty, so far.
We're proud of what three people can do. We also know what thirty could do.Three of thirty

Good to know

What your first Saturday looks like

The short version: show up at 10:45, say hello, and we'll hand you a job. Here is the slightly longer version.

Who can help

Anyone who can spare a morning

Neighbors, students, retirees, families, work teams, clubs and classes. All ages are welcome; there is a job for everyone.

What it's like

Outdoors, on your feet, friendly

We work outdoors, from the van, in a parking lot. If weather or a holiday changes a Saturday, we post it on Facebook. Some jobs involve lifting boxes of cans; plenty don't. Greeting, keeping the line moving and handing out bags are jobs for every body.

What to bring

Closed-toe shoes and a water bottle

Dress for the weather. Work gloves are handy if you have them. Nothing else; we supply the food, the bags and the stories.

Groups

Bring your team

Groups of any size are welcome; we're ready for whoever arrives. Text us the week before with how many are coming so we can plan the morning around you.

Between Saturdays

Weekday jobs, on your schedule

Pickups in Elizabethton and Johnson City take a few hours once a week. Blessing Box runs fit around a lunch break. Adopt one box near home and keep it full, and you never have to check a calendar.

First time?

Just show up at 10:45

Park in the lot at Corner of 10th St. & Windsor Ave., Bristol, VA, look for the silver-blue van, and ask for Roxana. Questions? Text (425) 971-0402 the day before.

Service hours

Need volunteer hours? Ours count.

Faith Food Bank is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so time with us counts toward Tennessee Promise community service, school and honor-society service requirements, court-ordered community service, and most scholarship and employer programs.

  • 2.5 hrsone giveaway Saturday, 10:45 to 1:10
  • 16 hrsabout seven Saturdays: what TN Promise asks for each year, due August 1
  • +weekday pickups and Blessing Box runs count too

TN Promise students

Bristol, Tennessee students on TN Promise need at least 16 hours of community service with a nonprofit or public service organization each year, submitted through tnAchieves by August 1, and 32 hours in total over the scholarship. About seven giveaway Saturdays cover a year, fewer if you add weekday pickups and box runs. You log the hours yourself at tnachieves.org and list us as the organization; tell us you need hours when you sign up so we can confirm them if tnAchieves calls or emails. The full rules are at collegefortn.org/tnpromise.

Need a letter for school, court, a scholarship, or a workplace program? We write them. Bring your form and we will sign it, or ask us for a letter on the day. We return verification calls and emails within a day.

Three people run this. We need more hands.

Give a Saturday morning.

Helping a neighbor pick out groceries takes no experience, just two hands and a couple of hours. Can't come? Gas money keeps the van moving.
